KYLE STRICKLAND ARTIST

Art is not my only diversion:

My prime diversions are
this and that, oh and this was added too. All of this was started where we met, the very 1st time we saw each other - here.  My other diversion is another something we all need - food.  Regrettably though none of these diversions make me any $$$. To do that I build these.

I always try and carry a sketchbook with me, with the aspiration of doing a quick drawing everyday. This doesn't always happen though.  I may sometimes work on a quick sketch or watercolor during my lunch break or in the evenings after the kids go to bed.

I began drawing and sketching as a child, wanting to grow up in my father's footsteps.  My father was born an artist, but all my young life my father put off his passion to better provide for us – working long hours as a graphic designer for others.  He would always say “I can paint for myself when I retire”.  By his early 50's he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which not only impacts your mobility, but the use of your hands, as well as your vision. However, this has not deterred him from continuing to pursue his passion*. His perseverance has inspired me to make my own time for painting.

* Today my dad relies on the use of a mouse, in place of a brush; and an LCD monitor, in place of a canvas. He uses a computer to help him finish pieces he started by hand prior to MS, as well as to create new works. I, myself a creative person, could not imagine having limited use of my hands. I admire my father greatly as he continues his creative pursuits. I created a website, Studio 7600, to help chronicle my dad’s past, present, and future creative works.
